A Psalm
לְאָ֫סָ֥ף
of Asaph
אַ֤ךְ
Truly
ט֭וֹב
good
לְיִשְׂרָאֵ֥ל
to Israel
אֱלֹהִ֗ים
God [is]
לְבָרֵ֥י
to such as are pure in
לֵבָֽב׃
heart

וַאֲנִ֗י
But [as for] me
כִּ֭מְעַט
almost
[נטוי]
had stumbled
(נָטָ֣יוּ)
had stumbled
רַגְלָ֑י
my feet
כְּ֝אַ֗יִן
[nearly]
[שפכה]
had slipped
(שֻׁפְּכ֥וּ)
had slipped
אֲשֻׁרָֽי׃
My steps

כִּֽי־
For
קִ֭נֵּאתִי
I [was] envious
בַּֽהוֹלְלִ֑ים
of the boastful
שְׁל֖וֹם
the prosperity
רְשָׁעִ֣ים
of the wicked
אֶרְאֶֽה׃
when I saw
4
כִּ֤י
For
אֵ֖ין
[there are] no
חַרְצֻבּ֥וֹת
pangs
לְמוֹתָ֗ם
in their death
וּבָרִ֥יא
but fat
אוּלָֽם׃
their strength [is]
5
בַּעֲמַ֣ל
In trouble
אֱנ֣וֹשׁ
[as other] men
אֵינֵ֑מוֹ
they [are] not
וְעִם־
and like
אָ֝דָ֗ם
[other] men
לֹ֣א
nor
יְנֻגָּֽעוּ׃
are they plagued

לָ֭כֵן
Therefore
עֲנָקַ֣תְמוֹ
serves as their necklace
גַאֲוָ֑ה
pride
יַעֲטָף־
covers
שִׁ֝֗ית
[like] a garment
חָמָ֥ס
Violence
לָֽמוֹ׃
them
7
יָ֭צָא
Bulge
מֵחֵ֣לֶב
with abundance
עֵינֵ֑מוֹ
their eyes
עָ֝בְר֗וּ
they have more than
מַשְׂכִּיּ֥וֹת
could wish
לֵבָֽב׃
heart
8
יָמִ֤יקוּ ׀
They scoff
וִידַבְּר֣וּ
and speak
בְרָ֣ע
wickedly
עֹ֑שֶׁק
[concerning] oppression
מִמָּר֥וֹם
loftily
יְדַבֵּֽרוּ׃
they speak
9
שַׁתּ֣וּ
They set
בַשָּׁמַ֣יִם
against the heavens
פִּיהֶ֑ם
their mouth
וּ֝לְשׁוֹנָ֗ם
and their tongue
תִּֽהֲלַ֥ךְ
walks
בָּאָֽרֶץ׃
through the earth

לָכֵ֤ן ׀
Upon
[ישיב]
return
(יָשׁ֣וּב)
return
עַמּ֣וֹ
his people
הֲלֹ֑ם
here
וּמֵ֥י
and waters
מָ֝לֵ֗א
of a full [cup]
יִמָּ֥צוּ
are drained
לָֽמוֹ׃
by them

וְֽאָמְר֗וּ
And they say
אֵיכָ֥ה
how
יָדַֽע־
does know
אֵ֑ל
God
וְיֵ֖שׁ
and is there
דֵּעָ֣ה
knowledge
בְעֶלְיֽוֹן׃
in the Most High
12
הִנֵּה־
behold
אֵ֥לֶּה
these [are]
רְשָׁעִ֑ים
the ungodly
וְשַׁלְוֵ֥י
and who are at ease
ע֝וֹלָ֗ם
always
הִשְׂגּוּ־
they increase
חָֽיִל׃
in riches

אַךְ־
Surely
רִ֭יק
[in] vain
זִכִּ֣יתִי
I have cleansed
לְבָבִ֑י
my heart
וָאֶרְחַ֖ץ
and washed
בְּנִקָּי֣וֹן
in innocence
כַּפָּֽי׃
my hands
14
וָאֱהִ֣י
For I have been
נָ֭גוּעַ
plagued
כָּל־
all
הַיּ֑וֹם
day long
וְ֝תוֹכַחְתִּ֗י
and chastened
לַבְּקָרִֽים׃
every morning
15
אִם־
If
אָ֭מַרְתִּי
I had said
אֲסַפְּרָ֥ה
I will speak
כְמ֑וֹ
thus
הִנֵּ֤ה
behold
ד֭וֹר
to the generation
בָּנֶ֣יךָ
of Your children
בָגָֽדְתִּי׃
I would have been untrue

וָֽ֭אֲחַשְּׁבָה
And when I thought [how]
לָדַ֣עַת
to understand
זֹ֑את
this
עָמָ֖ל
too painful
[היא]
it [was]
(ה֣וּא)
it [was]
בְעֵינָֽי׃
for me
17
עַד־
Until
אָ֭בוֹא
I went
אֶל־
into
מִקְדְּשֵׁי־
the sanctuary
אֵ֑ל
of God
אָ֝בִ֗ינָה
then I understood
לְאַחֲרִיתָֽם׃
their end
18
אַ֣ךְ
Surely
בַּ֭חֲלָקוֹת
in slippery places
תָּשִׁ֣ית
You set
לָ֑מוֹ
them
הִ֝פַּלְתָּ֗ם
You cast them down
לְמַשּׁוּאֽוֹת׃
to destruction
19
אֵ֤יךְ
Oh how
הָי֣וּ
they are [brought]
לְשַׁמָּ֣ה
to desolation
כְרָ֑גַע
as in a moment
סָ֥פוּ
they are consumed
תַ֝֗מּוּ
utterly
מִן־
with
בַּלָּהֽוֹת׃
terrors

כַּחֲל֥וֹם
As a dream
מֵהָקִ֑יץ
when [one] awakes
אֲ֝דֹנָי
Lord
בָּעִ֤יר ׀
[So] when You awake
צַלְמָ֬ם
their image
תִּבְזֶֽה׃
You shall despise

כִּ֭י
Thus
יִתְחַמֵּ֣ץ
was grieved
לְבָבִ֑י
my heart
וְ֝כִלְיוֹתַ֗י
and in my mind
אֶשְׁתּוֹנָֽן׃
I was vexed
22
וַאֲנִי־
So I [was]
בַ֭עַר
stupid
וְלֹ֣א
and
אֵדָ֑ע
ignorant
בְּ֝הֵמ֗וֹת
[like] a beast
הָיִ֥יתִי
I was
עִמָּֽךְ׃
before You
23
וַאֲנִ֣י
And nevertheless I [am]
תָמִ֣יד
continually
עִמָּ֑ךְ
with You
אָ֝חַ֗זְתָּ
You hold [me]
בְּיַד־
by hand
יְמִינִֽי׃
my right
24
בַּעֲצָתְךָ֥
With Your counsel
תַנְחֵ֑נִי
You will guide me
וְ֝אַחַ֗ר
and afterward
כָּב֥וֹד
[to] glory
תִּקָּחֵֽנִי׃
receive me
25
מִי־
Whom
לִ֥י
have I [but You]
בַשָּׁמָ֑יִם
in heaven
וְ֝עִמְּךָ֗
and besides You
לֹא־
[there is] none
חָפַ֥צְתִּי
[that] I desire
בָאָֽרֶץ׃
upon earth

כָּלָ֥ה
Fail
שְׁאֵרִ֗י
My flesh
וּלְבָ֫בִ֥י
and my heart
צוּר־
the strength
לְבָבִ֥י
of my heart
וְחֶלְקִ֗י
and my portion
אֱלֹהִ֥ים
[But] God [is]
לְעוֹלָֽם׃
forever

כִּֽי־
For
הִנֵּ֣ה
indeed
רְחֵקֶ֣יךָ
those who are far from You
יֹאבֵ֑דוּ
shall perish
הִ֝צְמַ֗תָּה
You have destroyed
כָּל־
all
זוֹנֶ֥ה
those who desert for harlotry
מִמֶּֽךָּ׃
You

וַאֲנִ֤י ׀
But [as for] me
קִֽרֲבַ֥ת
to draw near
אֱלֹהִ֗ים
to God
לִ֫י־
for me
ט֥וֹב
[it is] good
שַׁתִּ֤י ׀
I have put
בַּאדֹנָ֣י
in the Lord
יְהֹוִ֣ה
GOD
מַחְסִ֑י
my trust
לְ֝סַפֵּ֗ר
that I may declare
כָּל־
all
מַלְאֲכוֹתֶֽיךָ׃
